Keep Your GM V8 Cool Using Our Crossflow Universal Aluminum Radiator

The small block Chevy V8 is without a doubt the most prevalent and commonly used engine in the performance world. Sure, the LS is a popular swap right now, and there are certainly diehard fans of the Blue Oval and Ma Mopar out there, but even they can’t deny the popularity of GM’s small block (and even big block) V8 engine offerings. From Tri-Five Chevys to ’80s rides like the 3rd Gen Camaro and G-body Monte Carlos, and of course the vaunted Corvette, GM’s small block and big block V8s have been the performance aftermarket’s bread and butter, making household names out of brands like MSD, Edelbrock, Comp Cams, and others.

Like any performance V8, the small block and big block Chevy engines require a properly sized cooling system to adequately control the engine’s thermal needs. Many early cars used a downflow radiator, and others often used a small single or at best a two row crossflow radiator. However, once you begin upping compression, adding timing, and bolting on performance parts, the stock cooling system cannot keep up with the engine’s thermal demands. Adding a larger Chevy 350 radiator isn’t always physically possible, so going with additional cores is your best option to rein in those engine temps. Our WindChill™ 3-core universal aluminum radiator for small block and big block Chevy V8s takes the guesswork out of building the proper cooling system for your build.

Three Row Core for Increased Thermal Transfer and Greater Coolant Capacity

If two rows of 1-inch cooling tubes are good, three rows of cooling tubes are better, right? Not always, but it can be. Just adding a third row or “core” to a two core radiator can often increase the thickness of the radiator core to the point there are fitment issues in the vehicle, or the core thickness becomes too much for the typical electric or engine driven fan to pull air through, negating the benefit of the additional core tube. Our WindChill™ three core radiators use .790-inch core tubes, so our three row universal aluminum radiator is only 7/16-inch thicker yet has a 17 percent increase in coolant capacity. The additional coolant tube in our three row radiators also provides more thermal transfer to the cooling fins that surround the core tubes, providing better cooling with minimal additional core thickness. It is the best solution for increased coolant capacity and thermal transfer efficiency without causing fitment issues in most installations.

Crafted from aluminum with 3.49-inch thick by 2.63-inch wide fabricated end tanks for the best heat transfer and the lightest weight, our 3-core aluminum radiator for small block and big block Chevy are completely furnace brazed for a long life in your GM V8 equipped ride. No epoxy to crack and fail, no O-ring gasketed end tanks to leak. Just quality build construction that will last. Each SBC radiator is ready for your GM V8 cooling system needs with classic GM specific inlet and outlet radiator hose fittings, sized at 1.50-inch at the upper left and 1.75-inch at the lower right respectively, utilizing a single pass 3-row radiator crossflow design. Additionally, a standard internal transmission cooler is included and connects to your transmission cooler lines via 1/2-20 inverted flare fittings or can be converted to for use with aftermarket AN transmission .

Available in Three Widths to Fit Most GM V8 Powered Vehicles

We offer our universal SBC aluminum radiator in three overall widths to provide multiple options for just about any vehicle that can be powered by a GM V8. These overall widths provide maximum airflow for the available core support mounting space you have to work with in your vehicle. Our universal small block/big block Chevy 3-core aluminum radiator can be had in 28-inch, 31-inch, and 33-inch overall widths, all with an overall height of 19.25 inches. These three widths allow you to choose the maximum core width that will fit your application. Or, if you’re fabricating a tubular front end or other custom engine bay work, you can use these measurements to build out your project’s front end/radiator support opening for the best possible radiator fit. In some applications our universal may be a great installation solution.

Lastly, our WindChill™ universal SBC radiator features a strong billet aluminum radiator neck that utilizes industry standard 1-5/8-inch and includes a pre-installed 1/4-inch hose barb fitting for use with an of your choice to help you create the right GM V8 cooling system for your project.
