  • If you are looking for improved performance check out our lighter weight, next generation of this crossmember,  RCGNG-400KBLK.
  • We recommend a polyurethane transmission mount. The G Force  GMTM is sold separately.
  • G force has developed a frame extension, GF-FE100, to duplicate this longer frame on the early generation vehicles. The RCG-400K is pre-packaged with the frame extension.
  • The primary frame change on the 1978-1988 generation of GM G-Body vehicles begins with 1984 models and the implementation of the 2004R transmission which required positioning the crossmember further to the rear of the vehicle. This is evidenced by two sets of frame holes for the crossmember on the driver side of the vehicle.
  • Note: Some 1983 Hurst Olds are known to have the 2004R transmission and thus the longer frame rail which does not require the GF-FE100 frame extension that is included in this Kit.  Some 1984 El Caminos retained the early frames and do require an GF-FE100 frame extension to run this crossmember.

Spohn Performance’s QA1 18 way single adjustable front strut based Pro Touring adjustable front coil over kit for the 1982-1992 GM F-Body Camaro and Firebird sets a new, higher standard of performance and quality. When we designed our coil over system, we had two goals in mind.

One was to provide the performance capabilities needed for the toughest race tracks, the second was to provide the strength and durability required for the demands of a daily driven vehicle. We’re proud to say that we have accomplished both. If you are looking for the best front coil over suspension system for the third generation F-Body, you just found it!

Once thought of as a race only item, coil-over suspensions are now considered the hot set-up for any highly tuned street car. The combination of incredible handling with great ride quality is what one expects from a world class car.

With a Spohn “Pro-Tour” coil-over conversion kit you will have the no-compromise handling you demand without paying a penalty in comfort. It allows lowering of the vehicle over 2″, yet still maintains ample strut travel!

Warning! All coil-over kits are not created equal. Compare the features of our kit with any other manufacturer’s kit and you’ll quickly see the differences. Careful attention to detail by our design team is why the Spohn coil over kit avoids the design pitfalls of others. You can always depend on Spohn Performance to provide you with the best parts for your F-Body!

Other coil over kits on the market use a top spring hat mounted against the stock upper strut mount. This places the entire weight of the front of the car on to the stock upper strut mount.

With street driving and vehicle loads, these systems cause the stock strut mounts to distort, bend, and fatigue, ending in parts failure. The Spohn “Pro-Tour” front coil over system includes our fabricated spherical upper strut mounts combined with a lower reinforcement plate that totally sandwiches and reinforces the entire strut tower.

Fabricated Steel Spherical Upper Strut Mount Specifications:

  • CNC laser cut 1/4″ steel base plate.
  • 4″ DOM steel tubing.
  • CNC laser cut 3/16″ steel top hat.
  • CNC machined bearing mount tube – TIG welded.
  • Chrome moly spherical bearing with a Teflon® self lubricating race.
  • Underside of strut mount includes the coil over spring mount.
  • Powder coated gloss black for a brilliant and durable finish.

Adjustable Front Coil Over System Specifications:

  • CNC laser cut 1/4″ steel reinforcement plate fits in the entire recessed area of the underside of the strut tower.
  • CNC laser cut 3/16″ strut mount retainer with Grade 10.9 mounting bolts and stainless steel nuts.
  • QA1 18 way single adjustable front coil over struts.
  • 2.5″ Torrington thrust washers and bearings on the bottom AND the top of the spring, provides for no spring bind and allows for easy on car ride height adjustments (spanner wrenches included).
  • 2.5″ i.d. x 12″ long coil over springs.

    Fits the following transmissions: TH400, 2004R (note: includes the fE-100 frame extension.) Finished in a black powder coat. Includes new mounting hardware. Purchase transmission mount separately. p/n GMTM.

    *** NOTE: THIS CROSSMEMBER HAS BEEN RE-DESIGNED TO ACCEPT THE

    DOUBLE SLOT BOLT PATTERN OF STANDARD TRANSMISSION MOUNTS.

    SEE PART NUMBER GMTM. **

    Models: Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal

    p/n RCG-400K installation notes:

    • on all 78-88 G body crossmembers, the passenger side hump is the taller of the two.
    • on some installations, it is necessary to remove the catalytic converter heat shield from the passenger side floor pan.
    • this generation of vehicle is prone to body bushing compression, even with some southern vehicles. If the floor pan is too close to allow installation, it may be necessary to replace the body bushings. Some customers have reported that with slight interference instances, they have been able to gently lift the floor pan with the assist of a floor jack and a wood cushion, thus providing the required clearance for installation.
    • the crossmember is installed so that the exhaust clearance humps are closed on the top and open on the bottom.
    • the primary frame change on this generation of vehicles is beginning with 1984 models and the implementation of the 2004R transmission which required positioning the crossmember further to the rear of the vehicle. This is evidenced by 2 sets of frame holes for the crossmember on the driver side of the vehicle. G force has developed the frame extension (p/n FE1-00) to duplicate this longer frame on the early generation vehicles. RCG-400k is pre-packaged with the frame extension. Note: while this change was platform wide beginning in 1984, some 1983 Hurst Olds are known to have the 2004R transmission and thus the longer frame rail.
