1978-1983 G-Body Crossmember T56 with Frame Extension RCG-T56K

  • Fits Models: GM RWD G-Body; Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, Century, LeMans, Caballero, Bonneville
  • Fits Years: 78-83
  • Fits Transmissions: T56
  • Note: The RCG-T56 works with both the factory GM T56 as found in the 93-02 Camaro or Firebird, and also with aftermarket T56 transmissions.  Some aftermarket T56 versions may require slight crossmember modifications.
  • We recommend a polyurethane transmission mount. The  GMTM is sold separately.
  • G Force has developed a frame extension, GF-FE100 to duplicate this longer frame on the this generation of vehicles. The RCG-T56K is prepackaged with the frame extension.
  • For model years 84-88, the frame extension is not needed. The RCG-T56 crossmember is sold separately. 
  • The primary frame change on the 1978-1988 generation of GM G-Body vehicles begins with 1984 models and the implementation of the 2004R transmission which required positioning the crossmember further to the rear of the vehicle. This is evidenced by two sets of frame holes for the crossmember on the driver side of the vehicle.
  • Note: Some 1983 Hurst Olds are known to have the 2004R transmission and thus the longer frame rail which does not require the GF-FE100 frame extension that is included in this Kit.  Some 1984 El Caminos retained the early frames and do require an GF-FE100 frame extension to run this crossmember.

    Fits the following transmissions: TH400, 2004R. Finished in a black powder coat. Includes new mounting hardware. Purchase transmission mount separately. P/N GMTM.

    NOTE: Please see product specifications and view our G-Body Video in the tech tips section PRIOR to ordering your crossmember to ensure correct part selection.

    P/N RCG-400 installation notes:

    • On all 78-88 G body crossmembers, the passenger side hump is the taller of the two.
    • On some installations, it is necessary to remove the catalytic converter heat shield from the passenger side floor pan.
    • This generation of vehicle is prone to body bushing compression, even with some southern vehicles. If the floor pan is too close to allow installation, it may be necessary to replace the body bushings.     p/n RCG-350 installation notes:

    • on all 78-88 G body crossmembers, the passenger side hump is the taller of the two.
    • on some installations, it is necessary to remove the catalytic converter heat shield from the passenger side floor pan.
    • this generation of vehicle is prone to body bushing compression, even with some southern vehicles. If the floor pan is too close to allow installation, it may be necessary to replace the body bushings.
