This economical disc brake kit for Chevy 10 bolt or 12 bolt axles is simple to install and provides big stopping power, at a price nearly the same as replacing original drum brakes. That Chevy engine power makes it go, but these binders clamp down when you say whoa! Today’s average family sedan can stop from 60 MPH in 120 feet, at nearly 1G of deceleration. You need the same stopping power. Your passengers, you and your car deserve the confidence of disc brakes and our kit delivers that confidence with exceptional value.

Superior to Drum Brakes

Aftermarket disc brakes are superior to original drums in many ways: more braking force, less brake fade, and easier service. Stopping power starts with newly manufactured single piston calipers. Large 11” diameter, 1” thick vented rotors provide more stopping leverage than common 9” or 10” drum brakes. Brake pads are easier to change than drum shoes, and our brake kit includes a street-friendly organic compound for long rotor/pad life. Replacement pads are common sized, available from your local auto parts store. Looking for more aggressive stopping power? We carry race-grade D154 disc brake pads that drop in just as easily.

Fits Chevy 12 Bolt and 10 Bolt Housings

This disc brake kit fits Chevy 12 Bolt and 10 Bolt rear axles. Included bracketry will adapt this kit to both Chevy 10 bolt and 12 bolt housings with non-staggared shockes. Fits axles with a .050 x 45 degree chamfer, with a 2.786 inch maximum register axle.  Does not fit 14 inch rim, and it will be requrired to use a 15 inch or larger rim to clear the brake calipers.

Hardware and Instructions Included

Kit includes a detailed, step-by-step instruction sheet with images. The large bore single piston calipers include self adjusting E-Brake based on the 1979 Cadillac El Dorado. Cast iron rotors feature a dual bolt pattern in 5×4.5” (Ford/Mopar/AMC) or 5×4.75” (Chevy/GM) to match your desired wheel hub pattern. Plus, this assembly will clear most 15” diameter wheels designed with disc brakes in mind.

Due to changes in production in certain years, your application may require modifications beyond the instructions for this kit to install properly. If your axle shaft flange or axle shaft register exceeds the diameter that clears the rotor dimensions, you will need to machine the axle flange and/or the rotor to clear the diameter required.

Info

These heavy duty rear control arms are much stronger than stock stamped arms and help control wheel hop. Trailing arm bushings are not included but are available. Can be used with Speedway polyurethane bushings # or stock-style bushings such as Moog K-6178.

Note: The lower control arms in these kits do not have provisions for mounting a factory sway bar.

Installation Tips

Bushing installation note:  The bushing eyelets have a stepped inside diameter.  This requires the bushings to be installed into one specific side of the arm which has the larger inside diameter as compared to it’s opposite side.  The bushing will not properly fit if it is started into the smaller, incorrect side of the bushing eye ring.

Box has a 25:1 ratio (6.25 turns lock-to-lock) with a 3-13/16″ long input shaft with 3/4″ 30-splines.

  • If you turn the input clockwise, the output also turns clockwise.
  • Stock specifications on this gear refer to it as 6 rounds lock to lock for a 24:1 ratio.

IMCA Approved GM Metric Control Arms That Are Ready to Take You to The Winner’s Circle

Never has the adage “time is money” been more relevant than with racers. Spending hours modifying or rehabbing a part for it to work with your race program is a hard sell when there are countless solutions ready to go to solve the problem and get you back in the racing seat in time for the next race. Even when it comes to budget-friendly spec racing classes, often the new part is the best option to go with versus a weekend worth of fabrication.

A perfect example are GM’s Metric control arms used in many IMCA spec classes like Hobby Stock, Stock Car, and others. Stock Metric upper control arms are often rusty, or even bent/damaged, and the stock rubber bushings usually have seen better days. The lower control arm isn’t usually much better. These replacement Metric control arms feature stock center-to-center dimensions of 11 inches for the upper arms and 19-3/8 inches for the lower arms. All new stampings, they are powder coated for a long life and feature IMCA approved with 1/2-inch ID bushing sleeves. The 1/2-inch ID is popular among racers who loath metric fasteners on their race cars. Now a standard SAE wrench/socket will work for servicing your performance control arms. No more drilling out stock bushing sleeves from 12mm to 1/2-inch!

However, if your car was using Metric arms and 12mm hardware previously you will need to drill out your axle brackets and frame holes to 1/2-inch to match the new upper control arm and lower control arm. We even offer a trick extended for the frame end of the lower control arm that eliminates losing your socket inside the frame during removal or installation. The rest of the control arm bolt locations can use standard if yours have seen better days or you are replacing your metric hardware with SAE with these control arms.
