Spohn Performance’s steering rebuild kit is a must have upgrade! Worn, loose steering components lead to poor steering response and handling, making your car uncomfortable and unenjoyable to drive.

Old and rusty steering parts not only look bad, but they also prevent your car from holding proper alignment and cause premature tire wear. Save time and money by purchasing all of the necessary components in one complete kit.

Trick, black annodized billet aluminum tie rod adjusters eliminate steering slop and make adjustments a breeze. Our remaining steering parts feature forged SAE1045 steel housings and forged SAE4140 chrome moly ball studs for ultimate strength and durability.

Everything is precision CNC machined for excellent fit and finish and then sealed with durable rubber boots to keep grease in and dirt out.

Our front end steering rebuild kit includes:

UMI’s tubular upper control arms utilize our Roto-Joint technology for a bind free performance and quiet comfortable ride quality. The Roto-Joint design is a pivot ball lined with a greaseable delrin race designed to offer 28 degrees of total unrestricted movement, more than adequate for a bind free, low friction operation. The Roto-Joint design improves performance over the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings by allowing the suspension to articulate correctly, and provide precision handling. The installed UMI Roto-Joint allows rear end free movement when high handling, auto cross or road race is a concern while still being a 100% streetable setup. The installed delrin race, which lines the spherical ball, absorbs shock and road noise for a quiet and smooth operation on any street or track driven vehicle. These control arms are a direct bolt on replacement designed to minimize wheel hop, improve cornering and help track consistency. Constructed of 1.500” x 0.120” DOM tubing and feature .250” thick CNC machined mounting plates these control arms are some of the beefiest on the market. Control arms are supplied with Roto-Joints fully assembled and are ready to be installed. Roto-Joints are greaseable and low maintenance making an excellent street setup for your cruiser!

My advertised prices include all e-bay charges, listing, final value, and payment fees.  Original rear air dam with upper glass hinges for a late 70’s-early 80’s era GM G Body station wagon.  The air dam is not chipped or broken and it will refinish nicely.  The hinges are not broken, but the chrome is getting thin in spots.  Hard to find, original piece selling as is.

I only sell in the 48 states.  I ONLY ship to the 48 states to buyers with US ADDRESSES AND US BANK ACCOUNTS.  This is due to buyers who try to “bend” the rules to get around auction restrictions.  Just because you are trying to use a buddies address in the 48 states, that does not fix the extra fees paypal charges for payments from out of the US.  Since almost ALL of my Neg. FB’s over the last few years have come from buyers out of the US trying to “bend” the rules, I have been forced to do this.  As long as you have a US address with a US back acct., everything will work just as the system is designed.  If you do have a US bank acct. and you are using a third party in the US to ship to and handle your packages, it will be at the buyers risk.  I will not assume any responsibility for damage for any item that goes through a third party.

MY BUSINESS STRUCTURE

I have been selling classic cars and parts for over 25 years.  I have hundreds of cars in stock.  I get dozens of e-mails and phone calls every week on parts.  E-mails that are not clear about what you want to know, I don’t have time to answer.  Questions must be clear and to the point about the part and what you want to know and I will get back to you.  I don’t have time to try and guess what you want to know.  I ship a lot of parts every week.  Only a small fraction of my inventory ever ends up on e-bay.  I have my own UPS acct, I DO NOT SHIP THROUGH E-BAY because only part of what I sell is on e-bay.  That means you need to contact me directly with any shipping questions.

PAYMENT

I do accept paypal for payment, but I will not accept payments that are e-checks or have un-confirmed shipping addresses or non-verified payments.  Any payments that are flagged with any of these issues,  will be cancelled.  This is due to the way paypals system works. 

SHIPPING COSTS

My shipping quotes are designed to cover my costs of shipping.  This is obviously designed to cover the cost of shipping, but it includes several other items also.  This includes gathering and storing boxes from local body shops, tape, supplies, and a lot of time.  Buyers also need to remember e-bay is also now charging final value fees on shipping costs.  This was due to people listing items at a low price and making up the difference with extra high shipping.  These extra expenses trickle all the way down the pipe and must be taken into consideration when I decide what the starting price is on an auction.  If the shipping price on the auction is not acceptable, don’t bid on the part.  I am not getting rich on freight, but I am not going to lose money on it either.

SHIPPING

The only reason my shipping time is so long is because I am tired of e-mails from people who do not understand that weekends and holidays are NOT working days.  My normal shipping day is Friday every week and as long as the part is paid for by Thurs night, I will ship it that Friday.  With the exception of Holidays, I almost always ship on Fridays.  Anything paid for by Thurs. night will be processed for Fridays shipment.  Anything paid for after Thurs. night will not ship until the following Friday.  If I am out of town on a Friday, I will catch up any shipments from the past week on the following Mon. or Tues.  I do combine shipping AS LONG AS THE ITEMS CAN BE SHIPPED TOGETHER SAFELY!  Standard shipping takes 8-10 WORKING days.  Weather conditions do affect shipping and can delay shipments.  I use UPS and USPS for shipping.  Buyers can always pick up here also.

Freight shipments have to be scheduled for pickup, so freight goes out whenever it is ready and I can get a pickup scheduled.

SHEETMETAL

Sheetmetal typically has to be shipped Frt.  Smaller pieces may go standard or oversized UPS, it will just depend on the piece.  However it is shipped, there is always the possibility of dings, dents, or rolled corners or edges in shipping.  The only way to avoid the possibility of any dents or damage is to have the part or parts crated.  Crating is up to the buyer and the buyer is responsible for the extra charges.  The shipping quote that I will give you will only cover boxing a part,  crating is extra and the buyers responsibility.  Crating starts at $100.00 per order and goes up from there depending on the order.

FREIGHT SHIPPING

Large items such as fenders, doors, hoods, etc. will usually need to be shipped UPS oversized or by truck lines.  Some items are better shipping oversized UPS, some have to go truck lines.  There is no way to determine the actual shipping costs until the part is packaged.  Items that will go oversized UPS can be delivered to residential addresses and will usually ship for $100.00-$150.00.  Items that are too large for UPS oversized, will have to go UPS freight.  

Freight does require a commercial business address for the best rates.  Addresses are checked using Google maps.  Only addresses located in accessible business districts are considered commercial, the garage behind your house is not.  There are additional charges for residential deliveries.  Residential deliveries also REQUIRE and phone number so the freight company can make delivery arrangements with you. 

Freight shipping usually runs around $140.00 for a commercial address and $190.00 for residential.  Those numbers can fluctuate, but that is about what freight shipping has been lately on sheetmetal.  I do NOT have Greyhound here.

Heavy parts such as engines, trans, etc. will have to be quoted individually.

VEHICLES AND CABS

Buyers have 60 days of free outside storage at the buyers risk.  After 60 days, a storage fee will apply.  If storage fees exceed the purchase price, the vehicle/cab ownership will return to me.  Buyers are responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements.  I do have names and number of transporters that have been here before that I can forward on to interested buyers.

If you want to improve the handling of your ride, you must first understand what is wrong with the original geometry. From the factory, these cars were designed to understeer. To make them do this, they used a very short spindle with the upper A-arm at a steep downward angle, which results in a backward camber curve making the tires lean out of a turn, using only the edges of the tire. Not only is this bad for mechanical grip, it’s also why every stock Chevelle, S-10 or G Body wears the outside edges of the front tires. Below is a diagram of the stock geometry at rest, and then in a hard turn. Notice the severe angle of the tires. All of the cornering forces are placed on a very small area of the tire.

To deal with this problem, there are several things that will help. Simply lowering the car will help to some extent, but not nearly enough to correct the whole problem. Bigger sway-bars will reduce the amount of bad camber gain, but again, it’s not enough… it’s like a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

To fix the bad geometry, you need a taller effective spindle height. The “effective height” of a spindle is from the pivot center of the upper balljoint to the pivot center of the lower balljoint. Tall spindles with stock balljoints, or stock spindles with extended balljoint studs will both achieve this goal. 

Below is a diagram of the same car equipped with a taller effective spindle height. Notice that the tires remain near vertical using the entire tread evenly across its contact patch. This is key to getting the most grip, and life out of your tires.

 The 1″  EXTRA tall upper ball joints reverse the backward factory camber curves for a huge increase in grip. They also raise the extremely low factory roll center to dramatically reduce body roll. 

For drag racers SSM Stage 1 Plus allows faster weight transfer and more positive caster for better top end stability.

For lifted cars this radically corrects poor ball joint angle and helps the arm clear the frame when lifted properly.

The low-friction ball joints are legal for classes that require non take apart joints or OE style joints. Additionally, all low-friction ball joints have 32 degrees of swing angle for maximum suspension travel and contain no springs or plastic parts. Dust boots are not included but available if wanted. Dust boots can retain dirt and also hinder visual inspections. You get (2t) 1″ tall upper ball joints in this kit.
