Typically these are used to prevent the Lower a arms  from bending/cracking under stresses caused by Hydraulic pressure.


Our kit is cut to fit snug around the lower a arm area, kits will come with the necessary holes precut for ball joints area.


Some grinding will be needed as not all frames are identical, and used arms can already be bent!!


All of our plate kits are cut by hand, not on a plasma table…


Kit includes the following:


2pcs- Lower a arm reinforcement pieces for 78-88 G body (Cutlass, Regal, Monte Carlo, grand prix, ).  3/16 thickness. You weld these yourself.

UMI’s boxed lower control arms utilize our Roto-Joint technology for a bind free performance and quiet comfortable ride quality. The boxed control arms are fabricated from 0.120” wall thickness rectangular tubing, CNC machined drawn over mandrel bushing holders and MIG welded end caps to keep out unwanted road debris. Each control arm features the correct provisions for adding a stock or aftermarket rear sway bar, sway bar holes are reinforced with a 0.120” wall thickness steel sleeve that is TIG welded and sanded into place. The solid construction combined with the delrin lined Roto-Joints eliminate control arm flex and bushing deflection for improved traction and reduced wheel hop. The Roto-Joint design is a pivot ball lined with a greaseable delrin race designed to offer 28 degrees of total unrestricted movement, more than adequate for a bind free, low friction operation. The Roto-Joint design improves performance over the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings by allowing the suspension to articulate correctly, and provide precision handling. The installed UMI Roto-Joint allows rear end free movement when high handling, auto cross or road race is a concern while still being a 100% streetable setup. The installed delrin race, which lines the spherical ball, absorbs shock and road noise for a quiet and smooth operation on any street or track driven vehicle. This control arm set features Roto-Joints on both sides of the control arms. This is designed for maximum performance and suspension travel. Roto-Joints are greaseable and low maintenance making an excellent street setup for your cruiser or race car!

Adjustable Rear Lower Control Arms with Del-Sphere Joints | 1971-1980 GM H-Body

These Del-Sphere™ pivot jointed adjustable rear lower control arms for the 1971-1980 GM H-Body cars outperform the flexible, stamped steel arms and soft rubber bushings that come from the factory.

These rear LCAs are CNC laser cut from 1.25″ x .095″ wall DOM tubing and are 100% TIG welded for the ultimate in strength and appearance. They feature 0.875″ o.d. x .188″ wall DOM tubular rear sway bar mounting bolt through sleeves TIG welded in place to handle the most severe abuse.

Eliminate wheel hop, increase traction, and drastically improve handling with an easy bolt on installation. The Del-Sphere™ pivot joints provide for “bind-free” handling and no deflection launch performance. They’re available powder coated in your choice of bright red or gloss black for a brilliant and durable finish.

The control arm bushings on H-Body vehicles have a significant impact on your vehicle’s ride, comfort, handling, acceleration, noise and vibration. When the vehicle leans (rolls) in a turn, one side of the chassis moves up relative to the rear axle and the other side moves down.

The control arms must twist to allow for the axle to articulate, this causes the control arm bushings to bind. If this bind becomes excessive, it will raise the rear wheel rate and produce sudden and uncontrolled changes in handling such as snap oversteer.

The factory minimizes this suspension bind by using compliant rubber bushings. These soft bushings help accommodate the necessary motion of the control arms during body roll. However, the rubber bushings do not provide much in the way of forward and aft support which can cause wheel hop during hard acceleration and braking.

It is common to replace the stock rubber control arm bushings with polyurethane bushings to resolve the shortcomings of the factory’s soft rubber bushings. Polyurethane bushings eliminate wheel hop, reduce axle deflection, and improve straight line traction. However, the downside of polyurethane bushings is they prevent the necessary movement of the control arms during body roll, which in turn produces significant binding in the suspension when the vehicle is cornering.

The polyurethane bushings also place high stresses on the control arm mounts on the vehicle. Polyurethane bushed control arms do not allow for rotation of the control arm during cornering because of the stiffness of the bushings.

Del-Sphere™ Pivot Joints:

The Spohn Performance Del-Sphere™ pivot joint solves the shortcomings of the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings. Our Del-Sphere™ pivot joint incorporates a spherical ball which is surrounded by Delrin® bushing cups.

Think of the Del-Sphere™ pivot joint as a Delrin® bushed spherical rod end. After over a year of R&D testing here at Spohn Performance on a streetable spherical joint the Del-Sphere™ pivot joint is the final result. Designed and manufactured exclusively by Spohn Performance, we have taken street suspension performance to the next level.

Our Del-Sphere™ pivot joint features a one piece forged and heat treated chrome moly housing, a heat treated and chrome plated chrome moly spherical ball, Delrin® bushing cups, heat treated retainer washer and snap ring, heat treated and chrome plated chrome moly threaded adjuster ring, an external grease fitting, and a beautiful silver zinc plated housing finish.

The Delrin® bushing cups absorb shock and road noise so you get the quiet and smooth ride of a bushing as well as 28 degrees of rotation! Our Del-Sphere™ pivot joints will always ship to you fully assembled, however, we also offer an optional adjusting tool that will allow you to do two things.

First, you can disassemble the Del-Sphere™ pivot joint for cleaning, inspection, etc. Second, you can adjust the amount of tension on the spherical ball. The amount of tension can be easily adjusted by using our optional adjustment tool to tighten or loosen the end retainer ring.

What that means is if over time and miles the tolerances open up you can simply re-adjust the retainer ring and have your pivot joint as tight as it was the day it was brand new. We doubt you’ll ever need to replace the Delrin® bushing cups, but they certainly can be. Unlike a spherical rod end, the Del-Sphere™ pivot joint is 100% rebuildable.

Wheel hop or traction issues? We have the solution! Optimize your vehicle’s instant center and improve forward traction by lowering the rear of the lower control arm 2″, 2-3/4″, or 3-1/4″. These bolt-in brackets are CAD designed to accommodate factory lower control arms as well as all popular aftermarket styles. Robust flanges inside the brackets add reinforcement and ensure factory bushings bolt right in. Brackets installed can provide an average 0.10 second (or better) 60-foot reduction and an overall improvement in launch consistency. Brackets are constructed of 3/16″ mild steel and CNC laser cut for precision tolerances.  Relocation brackets are designed to work on both lowered and non-lowered vehicles and feature multiple settings to optimize vehicle handling and traction. Welding recommended on cars running drag radials or slicks and faster than 11 second ¼ mile time.

Installation: P/N 3018 bolt in relocation brackets are designed for the factory rear end housings and may not fit properly on aftermarket rear ends. See weld in brackets P/N 3010 for aftermarket rear ends. Installation takes approximately 1-2 hours and does not require cutting or welding. New hardware and installation instructions are included. Adjustable upper controls are not required but are recommended. Welding recommended on cars running drag radials or slicks and faster than 11 second ¼ mile time.

In May of 2014 we released these RRx Series™ tubular front lower a-arms for the 1982-1992 GM F-Body Camaro and Firebird that set a higher standard of performance and quality. They are truely the new standard of comparison.

All of our RRx Series™ tubular a-arms are designed using aerospace level technology and design tools. First we create a 3D scan of the factory a-arm using a FARO® ScanArm™ with a 3D laser scanning attachment. Then we use that 3D model of the factory a-arm as our foundation for creating a tubular version inside of our Solidworks® 3D design software.

After we’re done designing the a-arm in Solidworks®, we then use that 3D data to design the jig that we will use to build the a-arms. The jig parts are then CNC laser cut and formed on an 8 axis CNC press brake. The final result is dimensional accuracy to within .005″!

When we designed our RRx Series™ tubular front lower control arms, we had two goals in mind. One was to provide the performance capabilities needed for the toughest race tracks, the second was to provide the strength and durability required for the demands of a daily driven vehicle.

Our RRx Series™ front control arms are a true “A” arm rather than a “V” arm. This increases the arm’s rigidity and equalizes the forces delivered in to the k-member. These a-arms are completely gusseted to provide for maximum rigidity and durability, as well as zero flex.

The CNC machined coil spring mounting tube is completely surrounded and tied in with CNC laser cut 3/16″ steel gussets that are solid MIG welded. We also 100% TIG weld on CNC laser cut and formed 3/16″ steel bushing tube gussets for maximum strength and durability.

These a-arms are equipped with a CNC machined coil spring mounting tube for installation of factory or factory style (lowering) springs. The coil spring mounting base has a spring ramp that provides for proper clocking and seating of the coil spring around it’s circumference. This allows the spring to spread it’s load across the entire spring seat, not at one small area as other designs on the market do. Note: We do not alter the ride height.

Another feature of our RRx Series™ tubular front lower a-arms that is missing from most of our competitor’s products is a coil spring retention tube. We weld a short piece of 4″ o.d. tube to the base of our coil spring mount for the coil spring to slide over. This locks the coil spring in place and keeps it perfectly centered inside of the a-arm.

These a-arms come equipped with steering stops welded in place that maintain the factory steering radius as well as polyurethane bump stops that maintain the same suspension travel as the factory a-arms.

Finally, we include new spherical front sway bar end links. Our front sway bar end links connect to the a-arm with a self-lubricating Teflon® lined chrome moly spherical joint that provides a bind-free connection for maximum handling performance. The top of the end link connects to the front sway bar with low deflection polyurethane bushings.

Steering Fitment Note: The steering stops on these a-arms are designed for use with factory style steering. They should not be used on a car that has been converted to a Pinto manual steering rack. If you have Pinto manual rack and pinion steering use our Part# 782-FMR or 781-FMR tubular front lower a-arms.
