Description:

    UMI’s P/N 3061 G-body frame notch kit allows for narrowing the rear upper frame rails on the G-body for installation of a wider tire. Laser cut 1/8” premium steel follows the frame contour (with some intentional slight overhang) and is easily weldable with a standard Mig welder. End enclosures are included to span from the repair to the original frame. Cutting, welding and fabrication is required. This kit is designed, manufactured and raced out of Philipsburg, PA-USA.

    Shipments within the Continental USA

    Most of our products ship via FedEx Ground or USPS, but we also utilize other convenient and cost effective shipping services.  All  orders are shipped within 24 to 48 hours of receipt. States close to Michigan usually receive shipments within a few days, west coast orders can take up to 5 days.

    Hawaii and Alaska Orders

    All Canada, Hawaii and Alaska orders will be shipped by postal carrier. The cost of shipping to Canada must be determined after the order is initially placed. An invoice will be sent to you with the corresponding shipping rate. In the event that an invoice for shipping charges is not received, please message us via the seller link to get your rate.

    International Shipments

    All international orders are handled via eBay's Global Shipping Program. International shipments can at times take several weeks to get throught customs so please keep this in consideration.

    Inline Tube stock items may be returned within thirty (30) days from the purchase date. All returns are subject to a 20% restocking charge. Shipped costs must be prepaid and merchandise must be in resalable condition (see below). Returned items must be in new/unused/resalable condition and must be accompanied by a copy of the ebay order or full legal name of seller, eBay user ID and email address for us to process any claim. No returns will be accepted after 30 days from the purchase date. No returns will be accepted for any portion of a complete set.

    We do not provide call tag service for parts pickup. The customer will pay freight on all return orders. Mailbox stores charge service and packing fees that are not refundable by Inline Tube.

    Resalable Condition

    All returned goods are to be in resalable condition. This means we will not accept a part used on a car, greasy, damaged, bent or without the original box. Resalable means in the same condition as you received it in.

    Damaged Packages - Shipping

    HEAVY DUTY 78-88 GM G-Body Rear Frame Notching Kit -Weld-In DIY

    Description

    CNC cut to fit all G Body frames. Made from Premium Grade 1/8″ (.120″) Pickled and oiled steel (HRPO).

    This comes with both right and left frame sections and ends to bridge the gap from the notch.

    This is thicker and stronger than the factory frame.

    This kit requires metal fab experience and can be done in the garage with a decent welder.

    Will need a welder, hammer, die grinder and a bench vice.

    Due to the Lack of consistency with the G Body frame over the years some minor trimming and will be necessary.

    Fit For:

    1978 – 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Malibu, El Camino

    1978 – 1988 Buick Regal, Grand National

    1978 – 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix, LeMans

    1978 – 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass

    (1) Raise car to a comfortable working height using the method of your choice. Follow applicable safety procedures.

    (2) Locate the existing rear frame that will be sliced and re-boxed  

    (3) Suggests marking the length of your cut based on the wheel you are trying to accommodate. Mark a long enough frame section to allow your wheel proper clearance.

    (4) The depth of the notch is also dependent on the desired wheel clearance. As a good starting point,slicing the frame flush with the inner fender.

    (5) Keep in mind it is always best to cut less to begin with and grind to exact fit rather than trying to cut to exact dimensions.

     (6) Use a vise and a hammer to bend the four smaller frame plates until they match the shape of the notch ends. Tack weld small plates into place.

    (7) In preparation for welding, trim the large plates so they slightly overlap the small end plates.

    (8) Before welding the large main plates, clamp them into place and check for good seams to place weld bead. The plate is slightly oversized to allow proper fit to all 78-88 G-body frames. Grind large plate for perfect fit.

    (9) First, properly clean the existing frame of dirt and rust to expose bare metal for the welding process. Weld small end plates in place first, and then weld the larger plates.

    (10) Installation is complete.

    IMCA Approved GM Metric Control Arms That Are Ready to Take You to The Winner’s Circle

    Never has the adage “time is money” been more relevant than with racers. Spending hours modifying or rehabbing a part for it to work with your race program is a hard sell when there are countless solutions ready to go to solve the problem and get you back in the racing seat in time for the next race. Even when it comes to budget-friendly spec racing classes, often the new part is the best option to go with versus a weekend worth of fabrication.

    A perfect example are GM’s Metric control arms used in many IMCA spec classes like Hobby Stock, Stock Car, and others. Stock Metric lower control arms are often rusty, or even bent/damaged, and the stock rubber bushings usually have seen better days. The upper control arm isn’t usually much better.     These replacement Metric control arms feature stock center-to-center dimensions of 19-3/8 inches. All new stampings, they are powder coated for a long life and feature IMCA approved with 1/2-inch ID bushing sleeves. The 1/2-inch ID is popular among racers who loath metric fasteners on their race cars. Now a standard SAE wrench/socket will work for servicing your performance control arms. No more drilling out stock bushing sleeves from 12mm to 1/2-inch!

    However, if your car was using Metric arms and 12mm hardware previously you will need to drill out your axle brackets/bushing sleeve and frame holes to 1/2-inch to match the new upper control arm and lower control arm. We even offer a trick extended for the frame end of the lower control arm that eliminates losing your socket inside the frame during removal or installation. We suggest using standard everywhere else if yours have seen better days or you are replacing your metric hardware with SAE with these control arms.

    If you’re considering upgrading from the GM 10-bolt Metric axle housing to the more popular and better served Ford 9-inch axle family, we offer weld-on Metric control arm bracket kits in and offerings.     Our adjustable polyurethane bushed rear lower control arms for the 1978-1987 GM G-Body cars outperform the flexible, heavy, stamped steel arms and soft rubber bushings that come from the factory.

    Eliminate wheel hop and increase traction with an easy bolt on installation. All of the ends are fitted with grease fittings for easy lubrication of the fluted polyurethane bushings.

    The adjustability feature allows for fore and aft centering of the rear axle housing to correct for factory tolerances, this also allows for fore and aft movement of the entire rear axle assembly to provide for adequate tire clearance when running large tires.

    Specifications & Features:

    • 1.25″ x .095″ wall DOM tubing.
    • Stronger, yet lighter than stock.
    • Polyurethane bushings (fluted) with grease fittings for easy lubrication.
    • Right hand and left hand threaded CNC machined 4140 chrome moly double adjuster threads into 4130 chrome moly TIG welded threaded tube adapters for maximum thread strength.
    • Re-uses the factory mounting hardware, no need to drill out your car’s LCA mounting bracket holes.
