The Stage 1 is perfect for the G-Body owner who wants a simple and effective suspension upgrade with real handling improvement. This kit includes our trusted 1.250” front sway bar and 1” rear sway bar combined with performance lowering springs and UMI monotube shocks. The sway bars reduce body roll and provide a nice balance when handling at the limit. Supplied lowering springs feature medium stiffness to control body movement and reduce floating while still providing a comfortable ride. The UMI monotube shocks feature a large diameter piston and nitrogen charge to dampen bumps and provide a crisp feel without being harsh. The shock is configured with heavy-duty mounts to ensure durability and fits in the stock location. Choose UMI’s Stage 1 as a 1st step to transforming your G-Body into a capable daily driver or corner carver. Every component in this kit, as with all UMI products, is Made In USA.

UMI’s tubular lower control arms utilize our Roto-Joint technology for a bind free performance and quiet comfortable ride quality. The Roto-Joint design is a pivot ball lined with a greaseable delrin race designed to offer 28 degrees of total unrestricted movement, more than adequate for a bind free, low friction operation. The Roto-Joint design improves performance over the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings by allowing the suspension to articulate correctly, and provide precision handling. The installed UMI Roto-Joint allows rear end free movement when high handling, auto cross or road race is a concern while still being a 100% streetable setup. The installed delrin race, which lines the spherical ball, absorbs shock and road noise for a quiet and smooth operation on any street or track driven vehicle. This control arm set features polyurethane bushings on one end and UMI’s swivel Roto-Joint on the other end. This set-up is designed for street performance and street enthusiast. The polyurethane bushing end is designed to be bolted to the vehicle chassis side while the Roto-Joint attaches to the rear end side. Since the polyurethane bushings are softer they are designed to absorb more road noise and shock before it enters the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Both control arms feature the correct provisions for adding a stock or aftermarket sway bar. Sway bar holes are reinforced with a 0.120” wall thickness steel sleeve that is TIG welded and sanded into place. All bushing ends and Roto-Joints are greaseable and low maintenance making an excellent street setup for your cruiser!

Rear control arms are one of the most important suspension modifications that can be done to your GM vehicle. Stock control arms are on the borderline of “junk”, bushing deflection and rusting weak stamped material add for traction loss and poor handling ability. UMI’s boxed control arms are designed to give you the best of both worlds, whether your car is a weekend cruiser or a weekend track addict we got you covered. The included Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings are an excellent improvement over OEM rubber bushings, while adding ride improvements they also work excellent to reduce traction loss. These control arms are a direct bolt-on replacement designed to minimize wheel hop, improve corning and help track consistency. Each control arm features the correct provisions for adding a stock or aftermarket sway bar. Sway bar holes are reinforced with a 0.120″ wall thickness steel sleeve TIG welded and sanded into place. The construction of the control arms features 0.120″ wall thickness rectangular tubing with CNC machined drawn over mandrel bushing holders and MIG welded end caps to keep out unwanted road debris.

OVERVIEW


The UMI Performance, Inc. reinforcing front frame brace is used to stiffen the front frame horns and front crossmember area on the GM G-body platform. The UMI three point frame brace takes the place of the popular “Grand Prix Bar” and also the stock frame reinforcements. No drilling is required and Grade 8 hardware is included. This brace weighs in at less than 10lbs and is recommended for street, strip, auto-x or road racing. The UMI P/N 3053 is available with tough red or black powder coat and is designed and manufactured with pride in Philipsburg, PA – USA. The UMI P/N 3053 is used on our popular G-Body Green Machine.


NOTES

Not currently approved for Grand National platform with intercooler. Occasional grinding may be required due to GM G-body product tolerances. UMI used five test cars for fitment in a variety of years and no grinding was required.

  • UMI’s bolt-in rear coilover kit allows full ride height, spring rate and damping adjustability for your 1978-1988 GM G-Body
  • The upper mount reinforcement is a direct bolt-in and holds a true 2-½” racing coilover with T-Bar
  • The FEA designed lower bracket bolts in using the standard trailing arm mounting hole as well as an additional reinforcement hole normally used by the standard rear shock
  • The lower bracket features a multi-position design to allow further fine tuning of ride height and shock location (±¾”)
  • The Viking shock is 19-way adjustable in both compression and rebound and ensures the perfect setting for every application
  • The 2-½” coilover springs are 14” 110lb for drag and street use
  • In addition to shock location adjustability, the UMI 3064 features three positions of trailing arm location adjustment to fine tune instant center
  • This adjustment is popular on lowered cars, for drag racing traction, or whenever a geometry change is desired
  • There is no cutting required and your car can be returned to stock if desired

  • Not included, sold separately: Spanner Wrench & Thrust Bearing Kit: Spanner wrench tool is used to adjust vehicle height while shock stays mounted. This wrench is needed to make height adjustments. The thrust bearing kit is designed to be placed between the spring and the spring seat attached to the shock. This makes for easier adjustments since the spring seat is rotating on a bearing. This kit is recommended for easier adjustments but is not needed to complete the installation. UMI does not recommend adjusting height on the car without a thrust bearing kit.

Rear control arms are one of the most important suspension modifications that can be done to your GM vehicle. Stock control arms are on the borderline of “junk”, bushing deflection and rusting weak stamped material add for traction loss and poor handling ability. Our boxed control arms are designed to give you the best of both worlds, whether your car is a weekend cruiser or a weekend track addict we got you covered. The included Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings are an excellent improvement over OEM rubber bushings, while adding ride improvements they also work excellent to reduce traction loss. These control arms are a direct bolt-on replacement designed to minimize wheel hop, improve cornering and help track consistency. Each control arm features the correct provisions for adding a stock or aftermarket sway bar. Sway bar holes are reinforced with a 0.120″ wall thickness steel sleeve TIG welded and sanded into place. The construction of the control arms features 0.120″ wall thickness rectangular tubing with CNC machined drawn over mandrel bushing holders and MIG welded end caps to keep out unwanted road debris. UMI’s boxed lower control arms utilize our Roto-Joint technology for a bind free performance and quiet comfortable ride quality. The boxed control arms are fabricated from 0.120” wall thickness rectangular tubing, CNC machined drawn over mandrel bushing holders and MIG welded end caps to keep out unwanted road debris. Each control arm features the correct provisions for adding a stock or aftermarket rear sway bar, sway bar holes are reinforced with a 0.120” wall thickness steel sleeve that is TIG welded and sanded into place. The solid construction combined with the delrin lined Roto-Joints eliminate control arm flex and bushing deflection for improved traction and reduced wheel hop. The Roto-Joint design is a pivot ball lined with a greaseable delrin race designed to offer 28 degrees of total unrestricted movement, more than adequate for a bind free, low friction operation. The Roto-Joint design improves performance over the factory rubber and aftermarket polyurethane bushings by allowing the suspension to articulate correctly, and provide precision handling. The installed UMI Roto-Joint allows rear end free movement when high handling, auto cross or road race is a concern while still being a 100% streetable setup. The installed delrin race, which lines the spherical ball, absorbs shock and road noise for a quiet and smooth operation on any street or track driven vehicle. This control arm set features Roto-Joints on both sides of the control arms. This is designed for maximum performance and suspension travel. Roto-Joints are greaseable and low maintenance making an excellent street setup for your cruiser or race car!
